A plant-based diet can support muscle growth when total energy, protein, and training are aligned. The main challenge is planning enough protein across the day without relying on one oversized meal.
Combine concentrated protein sources
Use tofu, tempeh, seitan, lentils, beans, textured vegetable protein, soy yoghurt, and a plant protein powder as needed. Aim to include a meaningful source at three to five eating occasions.
Plant foods often come with more fibre and volume, which is helpful for health but can make a calorie surplus difficult. Choose some lower-volume options when appetite is limiting intake.
Cover the important micronutrients
Vitamin B12 supplementation is essential for fully plant-based diets. Iron, calcium, iodine, vitamin D, zinc, and omega-3 intake also deserve attention.
A varied diet and periodic review with a qualified dietitian can identify gaps. Supplements should support a strong food foundation rather than replace it.
Put it into practice
- Plan at least 30 grams of protein in each main meal.
- Keep tofu, lentils, and a protein powder readily available.
- Use a reliable vitamin B12 supplement.
Start with one change, track how it feels for two weeks, and adjust from evidence rather than perfection. Sustainable progress is built through repeatable choices.
